An honest comparison
Planday is a mature scheduling product from Denmark, now part of Xero, and it is good at what it set out to do. The differences that matter for an Irish venue are how it is priced, whose law it was built around, and what happens when the schedule shows a gap.
| roster | Planday | |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing | €29.99 a month per venue, flat, unlimited staff. Public at roster.ie/pricing. | Priced per user per month on their public pricing page, in tiers. A 30-person venue pays for 30 users. |
| Starting out | Seven days free, no card to start, cancel any time. | Free trial offered on their site; card details and contract terms per plan. |
| A dropped shift | The schedule posts the gap as a paid shift and a vetted, rated worker fills it. Built in. | Open shifts are offered to your own staff. Filling from outside is your phone. |
| Irish rules | Sunday premium, public holidays, statutory sick pay and tips under the 2022 Act are built in, with Irish calculators on the public site. | Built for Nordic and UK markets first; Irish specifics are configured by hand or handled in payroll. |
| Clock-in | Any phone or tablet is the clock terminal (roster.ie/kiosk), PIN plus optional photo per punch. | Punch clock app on a dedicated tablet, and mobile clock-in with GPS. |
| Hiring | Permanent job posts included, free. Applicants land in the same account. | Not a hiring product. |
| Payroll handoff | One payroll-ready CSV with Sunday and public holiday hours broken out, for whatever software your accountant runs. | Integrations with several payroll systems, strongest with Xero. |
| Switching cost | Import your team from a Planday CSV export in an afternoon: names, roles and rates come with you. | n/a |

Credit where due
Planday has years of scheduling depth: rules-based scheduling, multi-location reporting and a large integration list, especially if you already run Xero. If your venue is part of a group across several countries, that depth counts. roster is built for the single Irish venue first.
Switching
Export your employees from Planday as CSV, import them into roster, and your schedule is ready to build the same afternoon.
